How does a menstrual cup work? A menstrual cup is a soft, flexible cup that is folded, inserted into the vagina and left to open. Once open, its rim forms a light seal against the vaginal walls, and the cup collects flow instead of soaking it up like a tampon or pad. After some hours you remove it, empty it into the toilet, wash it and put it back in. Between periods it is cleaned and stored, then used again the next month.
Intimina Lily Cup: the slanted cup that rolls up small
Lily Cup is Intimina's original menstrual cup, made from very soft medical grade silicone. Its shape is unusual: the rim is slanted, with a tall side that sits toward your back, and a firmer spine runs down the body. That lets you roll the cup into a tube about as thin as a tampon for insertion. Intimina states it can be worn for up to 8 hours.
It is the longest cup in the Lily Cup range and the one Intimina recommends for heavier flow and for a higher cervix, with a stated capacity of 0.95 fl oz. The no-spill rim angles inward to help keep the contents in during removal, and the ridged stem can be trimmed if it feels too long.
Best for: Suits people who want a soft, full-length cup, especially those with a higher cervix or a heavier flow. It is worn internally during your period and comes in two sizes. Intimina says to remove it before intercourse. If it feels too long, Lily Cup Compact is the shorter alternative.

How to use
Before first use, fully submerge the cup in boiling water for 5 to 8 minutes. Wash your hands. Flatten the opening with the tall rim facing away from you and roll the cup tightly upward into a tube. Sit or squat, relax, and insert it angled toward your tailbone until the stem is inside, with the tall rim toward your back. Run a finger around the cup to check it has opened fully. Wear it for up to 8 hours. To remove, bear down gently, grip the stem, squeeze the base to release the seal, and ease the cup out, tilting it slightly at the end.
Care
- Before first use, boil the cup fully submerged for 5 to 8 minutes. Never let the pan boil dry.
- Wash before and after each use with mild soap and hot water or a purpose-made cleaner, and rinse well.
- If you want lubricant for insertion, use a water-based one.
- Do not use vinegar, tea tree oil, alcohol, bleach, petroleum-based products or harsh cleaners. Do not put it in a dishwasher.
- Store it in the pouch provided. Replace the cup if you see cuts, punctures or a sticky film.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose Lily Cup size A or size B?
Intimina's guide is based on your body first. Choose size A if you have not given birth or have given birth by Caesarean. Choose size B if you have given birth vaginally or have a weaker pelvic floor. On flow, Intimina positions A for medium and B for heavier flow.
What if the size I chose is not right?
Intimina's manual gives two signs. If you use size A and it does not collect securely or you get continual spotting, change to size B. If you use size B and it is hard to insert or uncomfortable in use, change to size A.
How long can I wear a Lily Cup?
Up to 8 hours. Intimina's manual recommends that insertion time does not exceed 8 hours and suggests emptying the cup 3 to 4 times in every 24 hours, more often on heavier days. You do not need to remove it to use the toilet.
What is the difference between Lily Cup and Lily Cup Compact?
Lily Cup is longer, has a slanted rim, rolls up thin and holds more: Intimina quotes 0.95 fl oz against 0.61 fl oz for the Compact. The Compact is shorter and folds flat into a small case for carrying. Intimina suggests the Compact if you find Lily Cup too long.
How do I clean a Lily Cup?
Boil it for 5 to 8 minutes before the first use. During your period, wash it with mild soap and hot water or a cup cleaner each time you empty it, and rinse thoroughly. You can boil it again whenever you want a deeper clean. Slight discoloration over time is normal.
