Why is cotton rope recommended for bondage? Cotton is soft, so it is far less likely to rub or burn the skin than rough natural fibers or slick synthetic cord. It grips itself well, which helps knots hold, and it is easy to untie afterward. Those qualities make it forgiving for people learning their first ties. A long single length, like this 32 ft rope, gives enough material for a chest harness or a decorative pattern as well as simple wrist and ankle ties.

Japanese Style Cotton Bondage Rope, 32 feet

This bondage rope from Doc Johnson is 32 ft (10 m) of 100% cotton in a single length. The cotton is soft in the hand and made not to rub or chafe the skin. The maker lists it as suitable for shibari and for other kinds of rope play.

The long length gives plenty of freedom. You can bind wrists or ankles and still have rope left to tie off to a headboard, or work out your own body ties and patterns. It is black.

Best for: For couples who want to learn rope bondage, from a basic wrist tie to Japanese-style patterns. The soft cotton is kind to beginners on both ends of the rope, and experienced riggers can use it as a comfortable everyday length.

How to use

Agree on a safe word and keep safety scissors within reach before you tie anything. Find the middle of the rope and fold it in half. Wrap the doubled rope twice around both wrists, leaving room for two fingers underneath, then tie it off with a knot that will not tighten when pulled. Use the remaining length to anchor to a headboard or to continue the pattern. Never tie rope around the neck, and avoid pressure on the inside of the wrists and upper arms. Check hands for warmth and feeling often, and untie at once if there is numbness or tingling.

Care

  • Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, or place in a mesh bag on a gentle cycle.
  • Hang the rope loosely to air dry completely; do not tumble dry.
  • Coil it loosely for storage in a dry place.
  • Check for fraying before each use.
  • Keep safety scissors with the rope.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the rope?

It is 32 ft long, which is 10 meters, in one continuous length. That is enough for most single ties, including simple chest harnesses.

Will it burn or chafe my skin?

The rope is soft 100% cotton, and the maker says it will not rub or chafe. Any rope can cause friction if it is pulled quickly across skin, so move it slowly when tying and untying.

Is it suitable for shibari?

Yes. The maker lists it as suitable for shibari and other rope play.

Can it be used for suspension?

No load rating is given in the product listing. Use it for ties on the bed or floor only, and do not use it to lift or hang body weight.

What color and thickness is it?

This listing is the black rope. The listing gives the length but not the diameter.
