What makes a candle suitable for wax play? The melting point. Ordinary household candles can melt at high temperatures and may contain additives that hold heat. Candles made for wax play are formulated to melt lower, so the drips feel warm on the skin. These candles melt at 136 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which the distributor describes as lower than a standard candle. Height matters as well. Wax cools as it falls, so pouring from higher up gives a milder drip. Always test on your own skin first.
Burning Heart: blacklight drip candles for wax play
The Burning Heart set from Master Series contains three heart-shaped drip candles for wax play. Each candle is 2.4 by 2.4 inches and 1.1 inches deep, and sits in an iron container. The wax is a soy and paraffin blend that melts at 136 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and each candle burns for about 4 hours.
The wax is neon colored and reacts to UV light, so drips glow on the skin under a blacklight. No fragrance is added. Once the wax has cooled, it peels off the skin. A blacklight is not included. The set comes in neon green and pink.
Best for: For couples who want to try temperature play or add a visual element to it. The low melting point and unscented wax make the set a reasonable starting point for wax play, as long as you test first and avoid sensitive areas.

How to use
Set a candle on a stable, non-flammable surface and light it. Let a pool of wax form. Test a few drops on the inside of your own forearm before using it on a partner. Tilt the candle from high above the skin for a cooler drip, and move closer only as your partner gets used to the warmth. Keep wax away from the eyes, face, hair and other sensitive areas. Cover bedding with an old sheet. When the wax has cooled, peel it off.
Care
- Always burn the candles on a stable, non-flammable surface and never leave a flame unattended.
- Blow the candle out and let the wax harden before moving or storing it.
- Store in a cool place away from heat and direct sunlight.
- Peel cooled wax off the skin. Protect fabrics with an old sheet or towel.

Frequently asked questions
How hot is the wax?
The wax melts at 136 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The distributor calls this lower than a standard candle. The wax cools as it falls, so dripping from higher up feels milder. Test on your own skin before using it on someone else.
Do I need a blacklight?
Only for the glow effect. The candles work as ordinary wax play candles in normal light. Under a UV blacklight the neon wax glows. A blacklight is not included in the set.
How long do the candles last?
Each candle burns for approximately 4 hours, so the set of three gives about 12 hours in total. A wax play session normally uses only a small part of one candle.
Where should I not drip the wax?
Avoid the eyes, face, hair and other sensitive areas, as the distributor advises. Keep to broad areas of skin such as the back, chest and thighs, and stop if your partner finds it too warm.
