What is a sonic clitoral massager? A sonic clitoral massager has a small round mouth instead of a vibrating tip. You place the mouth over the clitoris and the toy sends sonic waves through it, so the stimulation arrives without the surface rubbing against you. LELO calls its version SenSonic technology. The waves are meant to reach the parts of the clitoris that sit below the skin as well as the visible tip, which gives a broader, slower-building sensation than a standard vibrator.
LELO SONA: sonic waves for the whole clitoris
SONA is the first generation of LELO's sonic clitoral massager. Instead of vibrating against the skin, it uses SenSonic technology to send gentle sonic waves through a 0.7 in mouth that sits over the clitoris. Eight settings run from a low murmur to a strong pulse, so you can build up slowly or go straight to the higher intensities. LELO describes it as well suited to edging and to finding out how intense you like things.
The outer body is a single piece of soft silicone, which keeps it watertight and leaves no seams to trap residue. It is 100% waterproof, so the bath, the shower and the hot tub are all fine. A full charge takes 2 hours and gives up to 2 hours of use.
Best for: SONA is for external clitoral use only. It suits anyone who finds direct vibration too sharp, and anyone who wants the sonic sensation in its simplest form. At 4.3 in long and 4.4 oz it sits in one hand, for solo play or for use with a partner.

How to use
Charge SONA with the USB cord for 2 hours before first use. Put a little water-based lubricant around the rim of the mouth to make the contact more comfortable. Part the labia and place the mouth over the clitoris so it surrounds the tip instead of pressing on it. Switch on at the lowest intensity and hold still for a moment, since sonic waves feel different from vibration. Use the three buttons to raise or lower the intensity and to move through the eight settings. SONA switches off automatically after 20 minutes; turn it back on to continue.
Care
- Use water-based lubricant only; silicone-based lubricants can damage the silicone surface.
- Wash before and after use with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner, then pat dry.
- Never boil SONA or put it in a dishwasher.
- Recharge with the supplied USB cord; a full charge takes 2 hours.
- Store it dry in the satin pouch, away from other silicone toys.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SONA and SONA Cruise?
They share the same size, the same eight settings and the same battery. SONA Cruise adds Cruise Control, which stops the intensity dropping when you press the massager hard against your body. If you hold a toy lightly in place, SONA does the same job.
How does SONA compare with SONA 2?
SONA 2 has twelve settings where SONA has eight, and a wider mouth: 0.9 in against 0.7 in. Weight, battery, charge time and run time are the same on both. SONA is the simpler choice with a slightly smaller opening.
How loud is LELO SONA?
LELO lists a maximum noise level of 60 dB. That figure is the upper limit, so expect less on the lower settings. It is not silent, and a closed door is a sensible precaution if you share your home.
Can I use SONA in the bath or shower?
Yes. SONA is 100% waterproof and LELO states it is suitable for the bath, the shower and the hot tub. The single-piece silicone body is what keeps it watertight. Dry it fully before you plug in the charging cord.
Is SONA a good first sonic massager?
It is a straightforward one to start with. It is used externally only, has eight settings to step through and switches itself off after 20 minutes. Begin on the lowest intensity and give yourself a minute to get used to the feel of sonic waves.
